Suya is a baked African style beef, mutton or chicken satay smothered in or sprinkled with a spicy, flavorful peanut butter sauce, fresh tomatoes, chilli, and onions. It’s the Nigerian version of Shish Kebabs which can be found on street corners of both urban and rural areas of every Nigerian state including the federal capital, Abuja.

This popular, historically northern Nigerian street food can also be found in thousands of spots around hotels and other recreational sites like beach fronts and amusement parks in virtually every town and city in Nigeria. Nigerians in the Diaspora have replicated these Suya ‘spots’ in their countries of residence in Europe and Northern America. Suya joints can be found in the United Kingdom, the United States, and Canada.
